Securing underground car park in Dartford centre

October 2011

When the Green Gate team were approached by a despairing property management firm about a major parking problem, they sprung into action with a neat and secure solution.

St. John’s House in Dartford, Kent has three main commercial tenants and a large underground parking area - right in the heart for Dartford town centre. They are also next door to a nightclub. Their old electric gates were prone to regular vandalism of a weekend to allow clubbers easy access to free parking.

Not only did this often lead to the car park being full on Monday morning, it was also prone to many unsavoury activities over the weekend. The managing agents came to us for a ‘no questions’ solution.

The answer has been to install a brand new steel sliding gate with rising bollards to make the new install totally ram-proof. The 2m high gate is opened on an O&O Mega2000 motor and incorporates the relevant safety edges, traffic lights and roll back cage to ensure it meets the latest machinery directives and is BS EN 13241-1 compliant. Tenants activate the gate on arrival with their existing radio fobs, or by calling from their mobile phones.

The gate is then further protected from any ramming by two O&O Easy700 rising bollards that rise in-front of it. They are triggered by the same radio fobs and lower as the gate opens. They then rise again once the gate has fully closed.

Since the new gates were fitted, there has not been one single incident in the car park. The tenants can all be assured that when they get to work on Monday morning, their space is waiting for them.
