The Challenge:
Road Control Services in Dublin is a trusted provider of temporary traffic management services. Since 2018 the company has grown by delivering reliable, high-quality traffic management solutions across Ireland.
With the continuing dual challenge of staff shortages and operational constraints, Road Control Services needed a safer, more efficient solution to help them cope with their growing traffic management operations.
They needed a system that would improve worker safety and reduce manual handling, allowing staff to focus on managing site works effectively.
Traditional Stop/Go works involve operatives manually turning Stop/Go boards in live traffic and operatives often face aggressive behaviour from the public.
The Fix:
To address these challenges, Road Control Services trialled INSTABOOM Go on a busy roadworks site in Dublin. INSTABOOM Go is a remote operated, solar-powered Stop/Go board that allows traffic to be controlled efficiently from a safe distance. Weighing just 22kg and deployable by a single operator, up to four units can be controlled by a single remote, with safety protocols in place to prevent conflicting signals.
The trial demonstrated that INSTABOOM Go improves the efficiency of Road Control’s traffic management operations. The units were deployed and set-up quickly saving time for workers and avoiding further delays to road users.
INSTABOOM Go also increased safety by allowing staff to operate out of harm’s way and live traffic. The size of a small suitcase, the units were easy to handle and manoeuvre, which reduced physical strain. They proved especially valuable during busy periods when staff numbers were limited.
Dumitru Hlusca, Director of Road Control Services Limited, said: "They worked really well. They’re reliable, easy to operate and a good fit for the sites we trialled them on."
When asked if he would continue to use INSTABOOM Go on future projects, Dumitru added: "Yes, absolutely. They made traffic management smoother and safer and we’d be more than happy to use them again."
Road Control Services currently have four INSTABOOM Go units on hire and with the Dublin trial proving such a success, the company has begun deploying them across multiple worksites.
Their impressive performance, enhanced safety features and overall ease of use have led Road Control to plan for additional hires as they continue to expand their traffic management operations.
